(U.S. STANDARD CUPS)
To determine the specific gravity of a liquid quickly and accurately, the Weight Per Gallon Cup is an essential laboratory tool.
To weigh a liquid sample, first weigh the empty cup and the lid, or else use the tare weight. Fill the cup to within 1/16" of the brim, and replace the cover. Excess air and liquid will be expelled through the center vent hole. The operator should wipe off any excess liquid and reweigh the full cup.
After subtracting the tare weight, the operator can divide the weight in grams by 10 to calculate the weight per gallon of the liquid in pounds.
The cup and lid should be cleaned thoroughly after each use. |
